Project objectives
The overall objective of LOKI-Pandemics is to provide health authorities with a local control system for epidemic outbreaks - individual and practical - in order to support them in monitoring and investigating infection events, in assessing the regional and supraregional situation, and in implementing appropriate measures.
This overall objective is achieved through the sub-objectives listed below.
Monitor
LOKI-Pandemics makes it possible to detect epidemic outbreaks at a local level at an early stage and to monitor their spread locally. Regional characteristics such as population density and demographics or mobility are taken into account. The local infection dynamics are mapped in an individualized web application that helps users to control infection events with daily updated information.
- Representation of the infection dynamics of respiratory viral diseases.
- Consideration of regional characteristics such as population density and demographics or mobility.
- Simple and clear visualization of the further development of an infection event over time.
Evaluate
With LOKI-Pandemics, users are able to perform a comprehensive assessment of an epidemic outbreak and calculate optimal intervention strategies. The simulation of scenarios of an infection event without the influence of selected non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) can be compared with the simulation of scenarios with selected NPIs. The corresponding simulations can be performed on the platform.
- Selection of NPIs for simulation from an existing set (e.g. mask requirement, home office measures, social contact restrictions).
- Epidemiological parameters and NPIs are easily accessible and can be changed interactively if necessary.
- Visualization of further development of outbreaks with application of NPIs.
- Decision-making tool for the introduction of NPIs to control a local infection event.
Optimize
The goal of optimization is to improve the platform under real conditions in a pilot project. This means that the platform will be used and tested by pilot health authorities and that the ideas and needs of the pilot users will be incorporated into the further development of LOKI-Pandemics.
- practical platform
- user-centric platform
- demand-oriented platform
