Synthetic Biology
The Helmholtz Association has been supporting the emerging field of synthetic biology since September 2012.
This new discipline promises to make significant contributions to health and environmental research and as an innovative key technology. Synthetic biology basically involves using predefined blueprints to produce organisms with new properties that serve specific purposes. In order to achieve this, the field includes engineering alongside the traditional disciplines of theoretical and experimental natural sciences.
