Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland
More and more pathogens are developing resistance to previously effective antibiotics. Medicine urgently needs new therapies and drugs against infectious diseases.
This is where the work of the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) comes in: The researchers at HIPS are searching for new active substances and optimizing them for use in humans. In addition, they investigate how substances can better reach their destination in the body.
HIPS is where the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and Saarland University pool their pharmaceutical expertise. Located on the Saarbrücken campus, HIPS is the first German research institute explicitly dedicated to pharmaceutical research.
This is based on four main areas: Microbial Natural Products, Drug Design and Optimization, Biological Barriers and Drug Transport, and Drug Bioinformatics.
